MEDICAL FICO Score???

Written by Chrissy on February 3, 2008 – 7:48 pm -

In an interesting piece of information, Fair Isaac, is working with the healthcare industry to develop a MedFICO score to better predict if you will pay your medical bills or not.  Obviously, consumer advocates are already concerned that doctors and hospitals may check the patient’s score when they come in and give better care to those who have better scores.  Of course, the medical community has stated that they will only be checking the scores once the patients have already been discharged.  There are farther reaching implications, however.  Credit scores are already used to help determine auto and home insurance rates.  They help employers to determine whether or not to offer employment or not.  It is clear that a MedFICO score could possibly affect health insurance rates as well.  Another issue is, with obvious complications that are currently possible in credit scoring, i.e.  identity theft, errors that cost time effort and often, money to remove, those same concerns are apparent for a medical scoring system.

With all these concerns, some say that this MedFICO score could be in use as early as this summer.  I guess we’ll all be watching……here’s to your health!!
